Postmortem

Successes:

  • We finished the game!!!!!!
  • Process with animations went smoothly, and it was really fun doing animations frame by frame for the first time.
  • We also really liked the general concept of our game, and we like the idea of a power up that allowed the player to fly.
  • We were also able to make quite a few improvements after suggestions from others including bug fixes, changing the invisible borders, fixing controls etc.
  • With the camera follow, layer masks etc, we got to explore a lot more of what Unity can do, and generally improve on our game making skills.

What we learnt:

  • Animations and art was a lot more time consuming than expected.
  • Sometimes final adjustments takes a while, therefore it is helpful to start them early
  • It is hard sometimes to coordinate who goes on the games as people cannot be on the same scene or script at the same time, therefore it is important to communicate when you're on a certain scene.

Challenges:

  • Tweaking the different forces and physics are slightly difficult sometimes, and due to different level sizes, there are
  • We also did not own a gamepad of any kind, so although we implemented the buttons, we don’t know if it will exactly work out.

Future Revisions:

  • More levels
  • Maybe more detailed art, and a slightly more varied assets designs (eg: more block types, enemy types etc to make each level unique)
  • Minor control tweeks to make everything more polished and more consistent
  • Clearer narrative, explain the story slightly better
